JK CM for balanced urban development

             Jammu, April 7 (Scoop News) –  J&K  Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah Thursday underlined the need for comprehensive and balanced development of twin capital cities and towns in the State keeping in view the challenges on account of sewerage, drainage, transport, parking, housing and commercial activities.

            Chairing a high level meeting to take brief about the reforms in urban development sector, the Chief Minister stressed on upgrading basic amenities in the cities and towns alongwith creating good living conditions and environment.

            The Chief Minister emphasized the need for involving private sector in the construction of measure projects like multi story parking complexes and multi level bus terminals.

            “This can be initiated by going for at least one project each in Srinagar and Jammu city on PPP mode”, he said adding that by putting various projects for public-private participation the department would get an idea of the appetite of private players in the field.

             The meeting was attended by Deputy Chief Minister, Tara Chand, Minister for Rural Development, Ali Mohammad Sagar, Minister for PHE, Taj Mohi-ud-Din, Minister for Revenue, Raman Bhalla, Minister of State for Urban Development, Nasir Aslam Wani, Chief Secretary, Madhav Lal, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister, B. B. Vyas, Revenue Secretary, Law Secretary and other senior officers.

            The Commissioner Secretary Urban Development, Suresh Kumar made a PowerPoint presentation explaining various aspects of urban reforms.

            A PowerPoint presentation about the e-governance initiatives applied by the department in the functioning of municipalities and urban local bodies was also made by NIC in the meeting.

            The meeting was told that there are 86 urban local bodies, two municipal corporations, 6 councils and 78 municipal committees function in the State. Various functions of these institutions have been computerized and e-governance initiatives applied, the meeting was told.
