New Delhi/Srinagar, October 11 (Scoop News) – Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah today had a meeting with Union Home Minister, P. Chidambaram here and discussed with him matters relating to the revocation of AFSPA in certain areas of the State.
Omar Abdullah said that the gradual improvement in the security scenario and restoration of peace has paved the way for revocation of AFSPA in peaceful areas of the State.
Omar Abdullah also discussed the phenomenal work done by the Interlocutors in the State and complemented the Home Minister for his contribution in their appointment. He emphasized on implementations of the recommendations to be made by the Interlocutors through their report likely to be presented to the Union Government by them tomorrow.
In an hour long meeting the Chief Minister briefed the Home Minister about this year’s peaceful summer in the Valley resulting in smooth and fast track implementation of development works. He said the peaceful conditions also contributed in the form of successful tourist season. He said more than 7 lakh tourists and over 6 lakh Amarnath Yatris visited the Valley giving boost to economic activities.
The Chief Minister also referred to the conduct of free and fair panchayat elections and transfer of powers to the grass root democratic institutions to involve them in the process of development.
Matters relating to the development projects under implementation in the State under PMRP were also discussed in the meeting.
The Home Minister assured full support to the State Government in its endeavour to maintain peace and give considerable fillip to the developmental activities.
