Srinagar, September 20 (Scoop News)- N. N. Vohra, Governor, visited Raahat Ghar, run by the Guild of Service, New Delhi, for the rehabilitation of orphan and destitute children, at Zakura, here today.
52 orphan and destitute children from the far flung areas of the Kashmir Valley and Ladakh region are being provided free boarding, lodging, educational and vocational training facilities by the Raahat Ghar at Zakura.
Interacting with Dr. Girija Dhar, Chairperson, Raahat Ghar, and members of the Advisory Committee of Raahat Ghar, the Governor announced that a vehicle would be provided for facilitating the transportation of children of the Raahat Ghar and, besides, a cash support of Rs. 50,000 for this organization to carry forward its work for the rehabilitation of orphan and destitute children.
Regarding the need for allotment of land for construction of a permanent premises for Raahat Ghar, as brought out by Dr. Girija Dhar, the Governor observed that this matter would be taken up with the authorities.
The Governor also viewed the drawings and craft work done by the young girls and lauded their creative talents. He invited the children to visit the Raj Bhavan lawns in the coming days, which has a variety of flowers in full bloom.
Earlier, in her welcome address, Dr. Girija Dhar, Chairperson, Raahat Ghar, dwelt on the establishment of Guild of Service, its activities and the functioning of Raahat Ghar. She also presented various requirements of the Raahat Ghar, including provision of land for construction of its building.
Navin K. Choudhary, Principal Secretary to the Governor, and members of the Advisory Committee of the Raahat Gar were among those present on this occasion.
The children presented a brief cultural programme on this occasion.
