Noida/Jammu, Sep 25: Expressing concern over continuous attack on media persons for the past few months in Kashmir, J&K based journalists working in Delhi-NCR criticized Jammu and Kashmir Government for not taking steps to stop atrocities being executed upon them. Journalists condemned the acts by terming it as attack on the freedom of press. According to reports, Sahara TV news channel reporter Sanam Tasaduq in Kashmir was brutally attacked by the police near Tatoo Ground on 24 September. He sustained serious injuries. Journalist fraternity extended sympathies to injured and his family.
They demanded that government should conduct comprehensive investigation into the incident and ensure arrest of the accused police cops. Salman Nizami a J&K based Journalist working with Sahara TV said “this is not only violation of human rights but a brutal attack on journalistic ethics”. He appealed all those persons, parties and scribes who believe in freedom of press to oppose the lazy act and stand by victim Tasaduq.
Meanwhile Journalist Shaqfat Qureshi , Ajaz Rasool , Deepali Kaul , Fayaaz Ahmed Rishi, Maqbool Khan, Tariq Mir, Saima Naqvi working with various news organizations in Delhi and NCR have also condemned the act vehemently. It is pertinent to mention that for the past three months press and journalists fraternity is facing jolt after jolt on one or the other pretext. Banning airing of print telecast as well as print edition has become a routine in the state. Being important pillar of democracy, press-media has a definite role to play in restoring peace and tranquility across the state. In this direction appeals from administration and police authorities are being given time to time.
