Calling for effective implementation of laws to check domestic violence against women, the Minister pleaded for collective efforts to make the society free from atrocities against women.
Asking women folk to strive for their rights, Ms Itoo said that women can achieve their due status only when they will themselves stand against male dominated society.
Describing Madr-e-Meharban as the champion of women liberation, the Minister said that it was she who established WDC in the State for emancipation of women.
Lauding the role of WDC in socio-economic upliftment of women especially rural women, the Minister said that the corporation is doing yeoman’s service for providing loans to women self-help-groups to set up their income generating units.
She also described former Indian Prime Minister Mrs. Indira Gandhi and former Pakistani Prime Minister Ms. Benazir Bhutto as a role model for the women of sub-continent. She however, regretted that the issue of giving 33 percent political reservation to women has not been resolved.
Giving details about the measures taken to strengthen institutions working for emancipation of women in the state, the Minister said that Rs 10 crore have been provided to WDC for extending soft loan to women entrepreneurs to enable them to set up their Income Generating Units.
The Minister said that Social Welfare Department and Social Welfare Board would work in tandem to achieve the set target to rope in women to play a role in State, economy.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister of State for Social Welfare Ajaz Ahmad Khan, while highlighting the role of women in society said that over the years, the status of woman has undergone tremendous change as she is seen working shoulder to shoulder with men in every field of life. He however, said there is yet a lot to be done.
He said women has been given equal right in the contritution of the state and the country but there is a need to give practival shape to the provisions laid down for safeguarding their rights. He said women have attained highest position in every field by virtue of here intelligence and capabilities, adding that this has become possible more and more women are setting enlightened by the education and knowledge.
He said today women are past of administration decision making and nation building because of the quality education provided to them.

Commissioner/Secretary Social Welfare Department, Jeet Lal Gupta on this occasion said that women as mother has a great role in upbringing children, up keeping household and bridging the relations. He said women are respected and revered soul as compared to men and every religion has taught to ensure safety, security and her self-esteem.
Gupta however said that government has launched several welfare schemes for socio-economic upliftment of women and we need to work with missionary zeal in the process of their implementation.
Earlier, Managing Director, WDC, Prof. Nahid Soz in her welcome address apprised about the achievements registered by the Corporation during current financial year.
A cultural programme by self-help-groups was presented on the occasion.
