This information was given at a high level meeting of officers of Social Welfare Department held under the chairmanship of Minister for Social Welfare, Ms. Sakina Ittoo, here today.
The meeting discussed threadbare, the action plan for various Central and State Welfare Schemes, to be implemented during the current financial year.
The meeting also reviewed financial achievements registered under various schemes during the previous year.
The meeting was informed that Rs. 3.6 crore have been disbursed, among 1278 students of minority community, during the past year, for pursuing technical and professional studies, while, Rs. 3.68 crore were provided to other 5992 students of the community for pursuing higher education during the same period .
Similarly, Rs. 9.92 crore were distributed among 53421 students studying in class 6th to class 10th of the minority community of the State at the rate of Rs. 500 to the hostellers and day scholars besides, admission fee of Rs. 350 per month as tuition fee.
It was given out that 80, 000 students of Pahari Community students have been provided Rs. 7 crore as financial assistance for perusing their studies during last academic session.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that it has been noticed that there is lack of coordination among various wings of the department dealing with the distribution of scholarship among the students. She stressed the need for maintaining coordination among all the agencies of the department, so that works / programmes of the department could be completed within the time frame.
Referring to the disbursement of scholarship through education department, the Minister asked the authorities to evolve a mechanism enabling the department to extend the monitoring at the level of disbursement of cheques to ensure that the benefits reach to the targeted lot . She further said that the department should frame a schedule for the distribution of scholarship forms and added that it has been observed that the forms being filled at the fake end of the financial year are not properly scrutinized and the benefits do not reach to the deserving students.
Secretary Social Welfare M.S Khan, Director, Social Welfare, Mahmood Rana, Director, Tribal Affairs, Jahangir Mir , Secretary, Gujjar and Bakerwal, Inam-ul-Haq, Consultant Officers Scholarship Cell, Tsering Tundop and other senior officers were present on the occasion.
