In this regard the Tourism and Culture Minister, Nawang Rigzin Jora reviewed pace of progress of formulation of master plan for greater Leh at a high level meeting here today.
The meeting discussed several issues related to preparation of master plan and it was felt that the jurisdiction of Leh town needs to be expanded for its holistic development especially under tourism sector, the back bone of the economy of Leh people.
It was decided that the Consultancy would submit a copy of master plan to the District Development Commissioner, Leh for its scrutiny and technical opinion of Chief Town Planner before its approval for implementation.
The representatives of Tetra Tech gave detailed resume of formulation of master plan in the meeting.
The Minister said creation and up-gradation of modern infrastructure facilities besides, improving basic amenities for Greater Leh is the priority of the government. He said formulation of master plan for comprehensive development especially under tourism sector in the area is need of the hour, required to be completed well in time, keeping in view distinct topography and geography of the region which attracts worldwide tourists to the tour of every spot in the area.
Jora directed concerned authorities that due care should be given to cover tourism potential areas in the master plan for creation of tourist infrastructure facilities in a strategic manner for their convenience.
The Minister impressed upon the concerned authorities to work in close coordination for completion of the master plan, with strict instructions that due care should be given for development of potential sectors, besides improving basic amenities to the people of grater Leh.
Chairman Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, Rigzin Spalbar, Principal Secretary Housing and Urban Development, Suresh Kumar, Commissioner Secretary Tourism and Culture, Atal Duloo, District Development Commissioner, Leh T. Angchuk, Chief Town Planner, Chief Executive Officer, Leh Development Authority, besides, representative of Tetra Tech India Ltd participated in the meeting.
