Kenyan’s future now lies in the hands of former UN chief Koffi Annan.
Former UN Secretary General his Excellency Koffi Annan now holds Kenya on his hand, the future for a prosperous Kenya lies on his resolution on the going mediation talks. Annan who is one of the top most highly regarded African eminent personnel has been steering the talks to end the bungling of the Kenyan disputed 2007 election results, which has created post election violence and more than 1000 people have so far lost their lives. Mr.Annan who enjoys immense support from the international organization, including the United Nations, African Union, European Union, and the United States, and other Kenyan international friends.
Fortunately, Koffi Annan has really helped Kenya people since the start of his mediation talks, by bringing both the protagonists together to save the vicious lives of brothers and sisters which were just about to evacuated from their homes or be burnt alive, since that is the horrific scenario which has been going on in Kenya for the last one month. He has played a remarkable and a fundamental role by making ending the widespread violence as the first item in the mediation process, he hope, he pray for the people of Kenya and convince the hardliner protagonists to come to terms with a quick resolution to end the violence which has brought the country to a standstill, “our main aim is to build a solid and stable Kenya which can resists from any act of such violence again” says Koffi Annan.
Meanwhile the ODM leader Raila Odinga has condemned the killing of his two Members of Parliament as an act by the enemy to frustrate both the mediation process and the ODM. The two MPs Mellitus Mugabe Were and David Kimutai Too who were killed last week in cold blood, in a time difference of 38 hours, have been cleared as an assassination. Both the killing has sparked violence in several parts of the country and destruction of properties worth of millions of shillings. “The motive of this killing under the current political temperature we’re treating as an assassination by our enemies” says Raila Odinga the ODM leader, he has also challenge the government to hire FBI or the Scotland Yard to investigate the two killing of which the government has remain mum.
Meanwhile as the Kenyan solution to political violence continues, Kenyan is not ready for some stones to remain unturned. They are ready for truth and justice, which they believe will solve the current political problems.
According to numerous and political analyst in the country, the political violence was instigated by the poor equitable distribution of natural resources and exploitation of other communities. Land has been viewed as the most fundamental factor which will need a careful consideration in the Annan talks; others are employment, justice, constitution etc.
However, the manner in which the people have been killed both by police and arsonists, and the cry for truth and justice, it implies that Kenyans can still expect the killings and more protests to continue until “justice is done to the people of Kenya. You cannot also change the political will” says Odongo in Kisumu, one of the western cities which was seriously affected by the election violence. As long as the disputed election results remained unresolved, justice, truth and rights, if not done to the people of Kenya, those perceived to have won will not know peace.
No peace without truth. No peace without justice.
