Kiran Bedi, India’s first woman IPS officer, selected in the year 1972 offerred to quit police service on voluntary retirement and her proposal was kept pending for sometime by the Government of India.
The woman police officer Kiran Bedi is very famous for her prison reforms in Tihar and Delhi jails.She has also won the international award for social awareness and international understanding, the Ramon Magsaysay Award for her outstanding achievements in reforming the prisons.Hence she became a towering personality in the police service.
Kiran Bedi became dissatisfied when a junior police officer was appointed as a Commissioner of Delhi Police, overlooking her seniority.Hence she was disgruntled and sought to quit by voluntary retirement.The Government Of India was dilly-dallying with her application and offerred to appoint her as the chief of the National Police Commission.But she rejected the offer and was stubborn in her decision to quit.Finally the Central Government has approved her application for voluntary retirement.
Kiran Bedi has stated that she did not want to work for the government but to work with the government, revealing her intention to go for social service.Perhaps Kiran Bedi might be having political ambitions too. who knows. Let us wait and see what she is going to do after quitting the police service.
