Jammu, June 29 (Scoop News)-Panun Kashmir convener Dr. Agnishekhar while expressing his deep anguish and grave concern over the the continued harassment meted out to nearly twenty thousand displaced Kashmiri Pandits living in Jagti camp due to unprecedented 18 hour power cut and other problems urged Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and congress president Sonia Gandhi to immediately intervene and direct J&K State Govt to supply electricity to the inmates of Jagti on the same pattern as it supplies to other parts of the state.
Terming the state Govt’s attitude towards the inmates of Jagti camp as discriminatory and inhuman Dr Agnishekhar said as per one estimate the inmates of Jagti include nearly six thousand senior citizens, over two thousand sick afflicted with several diseases and thousands of school and college going children who are the worst victims of this policy of neglect and apathy. He said it’s because of this apathy and hardships that a great deal of deaths of scores of old and sick inmates in Jagti camp during past two years have gone unnoticed. Panun Kashmir convener condemned both state and central govts for treating displaced Kashmiri Pandits as unwanted citizens of this state.
In a statement Dr Agnishekhar said it is shocking that after struggling for years for a genuine hike in monthly cash -relief to the tune of Rs 12,000/- per family from the current meager cash relief of Rs 1200/-per person per family of 4 members state govt has on one hand enhanced Rs 400/- per person per family and on the other hand asked cash-relief holders to pay Rs 450/- as monthly electricity bill.
Panun Kashmir convener urged the authorities that be to shun the vindictive attitude towards the thousands of hapless inmates of jagti camp and keep their promise made with the camp dwellers on day before yesterday regarding the supply of electricity failing which exiled Kashmiri Pandits will be left with no option but to launch a mass agitation.
Dr Agnishekhar also cautioned the community to remain vigilant against the machinations of a vested interest within the community who seem hand in glow with govt agencies to play a dubious dirty politics of exonerating the JKLF leaders and facilitating them to exploit th e situation in Jagti camp.
It may be mentioned here that JKLF Chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik on Thursday had also condemned the attack on Pandit protestors allegedly by police and some miscreants at Nagrota.
In a statement issued on Thursday to Press in Srinagar Yasin said that Jagti Nogrota colony that was set for the Pandit brothers and sisters is facing a power cut down from many months and an ‘18 hours load shedding is practiced in the colony and during these hot days and nights’.
Yasin said that attack on Pandits at Jagti Nagrota has hurt every Kashmiri’s heart and mind. “We want to assure our Pandit brothers and sisters who have been oppressed that we all stand by them in this hour of need. Every kashmiri stands by these oppressed brethren and demand that they should be immediately provided with these basic necessities of life”.
Meanwhile Member Legislative Council Vijay Bakaya today urged the government for taking a compassionate view on the demands of Jagati residents by resolving the problems with regard to supply of power amicably and earnestly.
In a statement, Mr Bakaya, while appealing the Jagati migrants not to fall in the trap of miscreants, asked the Power Development Department to ensure supply of power keeping in view the scorching summer months and the academics of children.
“It is a humanitarian problem and has to be dealt in with human approach”, Vijay Bakaya said, adding that sagacity lies in averting a situation wherein the inhabitants of Jagati township are forced to come out on the roads. He expressed his anguish over the recent incident and hoped the problems would be sorted out on immediate basis.
