Srinagar/Ladakh, May 18 (Scoop News) –A Young girl, Ovessa Iqbal born in Chachoot village in Ladakh and brought up in Ladakh and Srinagar, has brought laurels to her family and Ladakh by securing 572 rank in order of merit in the recently announced results for the Civil Services 2010.

Her father is a farmer, as a big disadvantage was having been born in Ladakh, a region which is gripped by intense cold for six months of winter and remains cut off from rest of the world due to heavy snowfall.
Minister for Tourism and Culture, Nawang Rigzin Jora today honoured Ms Oveesa Iqbal, who has cracked Indian Administrative Service {IAS} examination this year.
Mr Jora on the sidelines of Buddha Purnima function presented traditional Ladakhi Scarf ‘Khataks’ to Ms Oveesa. He said it was a moment of pride for the State especially Ladakhies that a female candidate from Leh has cracked most prestigious civil services examination of the country.
The Minister said Ms Oveesa has demonstrated that Ladakhi youth are as talented as anybody in the country. Her success will go a long way to inspire the youth to strive for civil services and become part of largest administrative set up of the country.
