Ladakh students celebrate Losar at Jammu

Jammu, January 01 (Scoop News) –Extending warm greetings on Losar to the people, especially Buddhist community, the Minister for Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CA&PD) and Transport  Qamar Ali Akhoon has hoped that the New Year would be a harbinger of peace, progress and prosperity for the State and its people.

            Addressing a function coinciding with Losar celebrations organized by girl students of Ladakh putting up at P. G. Girls Hostel at Muthi this evening,  Akhoon highlighted the rich traditions of amity and brotherhood of Ladakh region since times immemorial and said that   co existence of different faiths and cultures in the region symbolizes the high values of humanism. “We have to uphold the values of communal harmony and strive to conserve our rich cultural heritage under all circumstances”,  Akhoon added.

Calling upon the people to be tolerant towards other religions, the Minister said religion helps in creating a disciplined society where love and spirituality triumphs and also help individuals to overcome intolerant and prejudicial tendencies towards their fellow beings.  

Urging upon students to take keen interest in studies to achieve   excellence, the Minister said that the Government has expanded the opportunities for higher and professional education across the state. He advised students to take full benefit of congenial academic atmosphere and achieve excellence in their streams of interest. He said “Youth are the future builders of a nation and they have to prepare themselves fully to face the challenges”.

On the occasion, the girl students of Ladakh presented a colorful cultural programme, depicting the rich cultural ethos of the region. The presentation mesmerized the audience and won great applause from every one.
