Leh, December 02, (Scoop News) – Responding to the last General Council Meeting’s direction to conduct a comprehensive discussion /awareness in Leh district at large scale about Artificial Insemination (A.I) to educate and clarify misunderstanding amongst farmers about A.I, the Animal Husbandry Department today organized a one day district level awareness camp on A.I which was chaired by CEC, LAHDC, Leh Rigzin Spalbar.
Addressing the programme, CEC Rigzin Spalbar highly appreciated the proactive approach of Animal Husbandry department headed by Dr. Abdul Qyum with the intention to benefit farmers. He said that the motto of council is to make Ladakh self-reliance by exploring all possible means from land based economy and having a throughout discussion on A.I involving opinion makers and doctors was very important to give a message to the farmers of Ladakh that A.I is the most reliable and worldwide accepted technology for rapid genetic improvement of high yielding cows and said that council with the aim to benefit the farmers of Ladakh has already installed a Liquid Nitrogen Plant at Leh spending crores of rupees to store semen which otherwise was brought from Srinagar adding that this plant will be made functional after necessary tests. He instructed Animal Husbandry to prepare a project of Semen Processing Plant for Leh so that Council can look for its funding.
Spalbar further said that biggest challenge of Council is to how to channelize the educated unemployed youths of Leh towards land based economy which has immense potential of employment generation and to attract youths of Leh in agriculture and allied sectors, Council is looking for providing short trainings in different fields of agriculture to the unemployed youths through SKUAST.
Speaking on the occasion, EC Animal and Sheep Gyurmet Dorjey said that from last three days the para-vets staffs of Animal Husbandry Department are being trained in Artificial Insemination techniques and underlined the achievements of Council in livestock development and milk production.
Earlier, Chief Animal Husbandry Officer, Leh Dr. Qyum gave a detail power point presentation about A.I highlighting its advantages. Later the queries of ECs, Councilors and Sarpanches regarding A.I was answered by doctors of Animal Husbandry Department.
The awareness camp was attended by Executive Councilor Agriculture Sonam Drojey, Executive Councilor Health Dr. Sonam Wangchuk, Executive Councilor Animal & Sheep Gyurmet Dorjey, Executive Councilor Tourism Mohd Shafi Lassu, Councilors of LAHDC, Sarpanches, Panches and doctors and staffs of Animal Husbandry headed by Chief Animal Husbandry Officer, Leh Dr. Abdul Qyoum.
