Chinese New Year
Chinese New Year is being celebrated on 10th February at the Chinese Arch in the city centre.
Shakespeare and Tavener
A Shakespeare Youth Festival is playing between 25th February and 19th March at the Liverpool Institute for the Performing Arts (LIPA) , Paul McCartney’s old school. The John Tavener Requiem is performed on the 28th February at the Metropolitan Cathedral.
Ken Dodd
A true Liverpool legend, Ken Dodd, and other Liverpool comedians will rock the St George’s Hall with laughter on 8th and 9th March.
Stabat Mater and Ashkenazy
Karl Jenkins conducts the world premiere of his work Stabat Mater on 15th March at the Anglican Cathedral, while renowned musician Vladimir Ashkenazy conducts the European Union Youth Orchestra on 30th March at The Philharmonic Hall.
The Grand National
The Grand National, the world’s best known steeplechase, runs on April 5th at Aintree.
Dreamthinkspeak
Dreamthinkspeak – One Step Forward One Step Back takes place between 7th April and 10th May at the Anglican Cathedral. This is a world premiere and is a site-specific work created for the Cathedral. Inspired by Dante’s Divine Comedy, the piece will respond uniquely to the cathedral’s voluminous interior.
Balls and Steam
If Viennese Balls are more your thing, head to the St George’s Hall on 12th and 13th April. The first big art exhibition of the year is Art in the Age of Steam at the Walker Art Gallery between 18th April and 10th August.
The Palm House
The intriguingly titled The People Show – Ghost Sonata 119 takes place on 21st April at the restored Sefton Park Palm House. This promises to be an epic promenade performance that weaves the audience through the Palm House and its surroundings. The work was inspired by the play ‘The Ghost Sonata’ by August Strindberg, a classic fairy story of a beautiful dying Princess living in a decaying household, awaiting the kiss of her Prince.
