After the government directions to the all LPG distributors of the state over home delivery of domestic cylinders to the people of the state at their door steps without charging any additional amount to the consumers, the people have to face additional charges at a tune of amount Rs. 35/- over Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) cylinder while receiving domestic cylinder at their door steps out of the Municipal limits and other remote areas. However, the state government and CAPD Ministry are totally unaware about the demand of the distributors of All India LPG Distributers Federation (North-East) who made a recent press conference in Jammu Press Club for demanding from the government to allow them to levy extra charges on home delivery of domestic cylinders out of the Municipal limits and other remote areas of the state.
This had been disclosed by its Zonal Co-ordinator Sheikh Fida Hussain in a recent press conference held in Jammu who were demanding that government should allow them to levy extra charges on home delivery of domestic cylinders in remote areas.
When contacted Minister for CAPD Choudhary Mohammad Ramzan said he is unaware of any such suggestion and demands from the LPG dealers. He said that they are trying to streamline the LPG delivery in the state and companies have already started delivery in both Srinagar and Jammu cities while they will now started the same in towns.
Replying to query for demanding Rs. 35/ per cylinder delivery in towns, Minister said that the dealers are already being paid for home delivery service and there is no such program to increase the charges. According to dealership agreement, the gas agencies are bound to make free home delivery to the consumers. He further said no one has approached the Ministry from the federation in this context and we did not allow the dealers to increase additional charges for home delivery in towns of its own proposal until and unless the government order should be circulated in this regard.
When contacted Fida Hussain said, “We are demanding an additional charge on the delivery of cylinders out of the Municipal limits and other remote areas of state as the present sum of Rs. 16/ for his services is not sufficient to provide free home delivery in remote areas.”
Replying to query for demanding additional charges of Rs 35/ per cylinder delivery in rural areas mainly out of Municipal limit state, Fida told Kashmir Times, “We are facing lot of problems while delivering domestic cylinders out of the Municipal limits where most of the consumers are not available in their houses and the delivery boy returns back to the office for saying the person is not there to receive the cylinder which also has one of the reason for additional charges. Now the distributors have to instigate the same process again for delivering the cylinder to consumers and the circumstances have forced them to assume extra burden on their pockets without any fault and government has to accept our demand while facing such kind of problems. It should be on the pattern as is followed in states of Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh where such benefits for distributors are already in place. We are not demanding this hike in cities and towns, but given the terrain of our state and that is why we are demanding additional changes for home delivery in remote areas.”
In this context, Fida further said that the federation recently arrived at this decision and would discuss this with the state government and concerned ministry soon when the president of the federation would be arriving in Jammu to convey and put forth the proposal of additional charges for its acceptance to the government who were facing lots of problems while delivering LPG domestic cylinder out of the Municipal limits and other remote areas which effects extra burden to their (distributors) pockets.
Earlier, a delegation of LPG distributors led by Fida Hussain also met Minister for CAPD and apprised him about the problems being faced by them. The Minister gave patient hearing and assured the delegation to take up the matter with Central Oil Ministry and Oil Companies over the demands of additional charges for home delivery of domestic cylinders out of the Municipal limits.
