The top slot in earnings among the sports persons is reported to have been taken by the Indian ODI and Twenty/Twenty Skipper M.S. Dhoni replacing Sachin Tendulkar who had been ruling the corporate endorsements for more than two decades.
Industry sources estimate that while M.S. Dhoni may gross about Rs.50 Crores, Sachin may end up with Rs.35 Crores. The difference between the two is attributed not to the rates they charge per endorsement but the number of endorsements they have been booked for. While both of them are believed to be charging about Rs.4 Crores per endorsement, Dhoni has overtaken the Master-blaster in the number of endorsements he has been signed for.
The quantum leap jump of Dhoni’s earnings is something even beyond the grasp of knowledgeable people in the Industry. Only a couple of years ago, it was estimated between Rs.20 and 40 Lakhs/an endorsement. He seems to have notched up this stupendous figure (almost 10 to 20 fold increase) because of his growing stature as a result of emerging victorious in one after another match and finally roaming in successfully in Chennai Superking IPL final.
The other big earners of the industry are reported to be Rahul Dravid with a figure of Rs.25 Crores, Yuvaraj Singh at Rs.18 Crores followed by Ishant Sharma and Virender Schewag with an estimated figure of Rs.10 Crores respectively.
That is what Corporate India is willing to pay to sell their products.
