Bagh: Azad Jammu and Kashmir. A special girl child was raped in Bagh district of Pakistan administrated Kashmir after kidnapping from her home, local press reported. The media reports said that a fourteen years old girl was raped in a suburb village of Bagh city by a person who ran away to another city when he was forced to sit like a rooster as punishment for 2 minutes by a Jirga- council of local elders. The father of the victim told media that his family is being pressurized by influential people of the area to make a compromise and withdraw the case against the accused. He urged authorities to give justice to his family “by giving strict punishment to the rapist”. “Life of my girl is ruined now. The influentials are pressing me to compromise but I will fight for justice, although I am impoverished and resource less.” Meanwhile, local rights groups condemned the ‘heinous crime ‘and also verdict of the Jirga-elders council. They demanded that government should ensure the rule of law and incidents of violence against women must be trialed in the courts, rather by the Jirgas. Rights groups say that Pakistani is witnessed this year 20% increase in violence against women, however, similar violations committed in remote areas are rarely reported or trialed in the courts.
