Iowa along with the entire midwest region was hammered, and is still being hammered, by a massive low pressure system that has so far on April 24th had 20 confirmed tornadoes and massive flooding in many regions. Here in Iowa most places have gotten between 1.5 to 3.5 inches of rain as of late this evening. At the same time in parts of Colorado they are having snow and severe thunderstorms. On the weather channel they were saying that within a 15 to 20 mile difference of locations there was a tornado warning and a winter storm warning. Crazy spring weather in the midwest. This same system looks to impact the east coast however, the impact may be slightly less as it has worn off some of it’s moisture and strength of instability in the atmosphere surrounding the system. If it does stay moving with the same strength it will impact the east coast with brutal strength so to the readers over their, in advance, be prepared this has been a nasty system so far and I don’t think it intends on ending here in the midwest until sometime Thursday morning.
The speed of this system has been relatively low as it has been spinning over the same area for almost a two day period now. Some reports have said 6-7 inches in parts of Texas and Oklahoma but I figure that by Thursday morning here in the Iowa-Nebraska region we will probably see only 5-5.5 inches of rain. This massive and intense system is a monster ready to destroy anything in it’s path, I just wish I could follow along it’s path for the entire duration. I am limited as to how far I can travel with the storms. We probably won’t see the entirity of the damage over the midwest and east coast for a few days but my presumption is it’s not going to be pretty.
