MONDAY QUICK HITS
Boston bats continued to rattle as they scored nine runs on thirteen hits to defeat the Toronto Blue Jays. The other major story today was the pitching by Daisuke Matsuzaka as he shut-out the Jays on one hit over seven innings.
This was his first win against two losses this season.
Bostons offense provided plenty of fire power with three home runs, three doubles and a triple. Kevin Youkilis and Jed Lowrie both hit their second of the year and Jacoby Ellsbury his fourth. Lowrie was four for five with four RBI. Rickey Romero takes the loss for Toronto now 1-2 the team 7-9.
Joe Blanton took the mound for the Phillies and came through with his best effort of the season. The Brewers are in town and were greeted by Blanton who is number five in the Philly ‘Four Aces" rotation. He ended up pitching seven innings gave up two runs on seven hits, struck out four and had one walk. However this was not good enough as the Brewers win in extra innings.
Brewers Shaun Marcum pitched six strong innings giving up a single run on five hits. Ryan Braun had three hits with two RBI and Jonathan Lucroy was three for five with one RBI.
Texas improved to 11-5 defeating the Angels(10-6) by a score of
Ervin Santana (0-2) pitched only four innings giving up four runs on ten hits,walking two with two strike outs. Texas Rangers starter C.J. Wilson (2-0) gained his second win giving up one run on nine hits striking out nine in seven innings. The Rangers Adrian Beltre hit his fifth home run and was two for four with three RBI.
The Cleveland Indians are still hot and beat the Royals 7-3 in extra innings by scoring four runs in the tenth. Cleveland scored seven runs on thirteen hits with the help of five doubles.
The Royals Tim Collins (1-1) gets the loss giving up four runs on four hits, walking two and striking out one.
Cleveland’s record is now 12-4 and Kansas City 10-6.
