The Karnataka Congress I leader and a former Union Minister Mr.Jaffar Sheriff’s volte face within 48 hours after his resignation from the primary membership of the party is laughable.
It is an irony that having got disgruntled over the issue that he could not get an assembly seat for his grandson, in the forthcoming assembly elections in Karnataka, forced Mr.Sheriff to take such a hasty decision of resigning from the primary membership of the party and sending it by FAX to the Congress I party high command.
However, the Congress I President, Ms.Sonia Gandhi was diplomatic and strategic enough to summon Mr.Sheriff and after having a hour long meeting with him, Mr.Jaffer announced his withdrawal of resignation from the party and asserting his loyalty to the party.
Congress I high command has to be complimented for resolving the crisis, that too in a critical situation of facing an assembly election in Karnataka. Moreover, the resignation of Mr.Sheriff, of a minority community, might have created problems for the Congress I, in garnering the votes of muslims.
Thanks to the timely intervention of the high command of the Congress I and averting a crisis.
