Muslims
fleeing Valley, minorities in dilemma
Jammu & Kashmir: Activists of ruling National Conference
(NC) are new victims of angry youth in Valley and present dispensation headed
by Omar Abdullah is totally ineffective to create conducive atmosphere for its
grass root workers. Ministers and legislatures are under security cover in
addition they prefer to keep mum and remain indoors, still are being attacked
frequently.
NC workers are being stopped by youths in streets and their
identity cards being checked. If any person is found holding identity card of
NC is being beaten ruthlessly as if being worker of NC is a crime in Kashmir.
In this context, Block President, NC Natipura locality resigned in a local mosque
on August 7th and declared that he has nothing anymore to do with NC.
It is important to mention that during protests in recent
past protestors’ targeted Sopore legislator Mohd. Ashraf’s house, Minister of
State for Health Javed Ahmed Dar’s house in Baramullah and Member Parliament
(MP) NC, Sharief-u-Din Shariq’s house in Handwara. In 1989 similar situation was witnessed when
several NC workers and activists resigned in mosques. Even the then law
minister Mohd. Akbar Lone and another minister of then cabinet Abdul Salam Deva
tendered resignation. Some Congress leaders including Minister for Education,
Peerzada Mohd Syeed, whose office premises was attacked by protestors on August
5th is not being spared.
Circumstances of fear psychoses are forcing hundreds and thousands
of Muslims out of valley to take shelter in and around Jammu besides other
states of country. “I had come to experience change as it was as good as being
in prison in Valley” Nazir Ahmed said who reached here yesterday by paying Rs
600 as bus fare. When asked to comment on situation of Kashmir, Nazir refused
to speak anything. Apprehensions are around
that weather the Muslims of Kashmir had left Valley to take shelter or to
further the cause of separatists. As in last week Muslim majority areas of
Jammu region observed complete shut down in favor of Kashmir stir. Situation is
worth to monitor, as if apprehensions of locals are to be considered, it would
be difficult for the present dispensation to save its skin from wild fire going
to spread in Jammu region on communal lines. As per a local cable TV penal discussion
last Sunday, elements are hell bent to disturb the peace in Jammu region for their
vested interests.
Meanwhile, minorities including Pandits and Sikhs are also
subjected to harassment and torture as per reports by Hindi National News Paper
minorities have been threatened to join protests or leave the Valley. Reacting
to fresh developments Ali Shah Geelani has assured security to minorities and
has appealed the protestors not to pressurize minorities to join protests. Billion
dollar question arises that despite being in power NC and Congress is not in a
position to safeguard their workers, then how come minorities and common people
trust them and their assurances for security of life and property.
