NCC inculcates discipline, promotes espirit-de-corps: Governor

Jammu,December 27 (Scoop News) -Describing NCC as the premier national organization for imparting Defence Services oriented training to the country’s youth, the Governor,  N. N. Vohra, said that it inculcates discipline and espirit de corps among the youth and enables them to shape their careers. The discipline and capacity to work together under the command of a leader equips the NCC trainees to successfully deal with varied situations in their later lives. 

The Governor was addressing a contingent of 103 boys and girls NCC Cadets of Jammu and Kashmir who called on him at Raj Bhavan, here this morning. These Cadets will represent the State in the Republic Day NCC Camp at New Delhi and shall proceed to the national capital on 29th December.

Referring to a recent meeting with the Director General, NCC in New Delhi, the Governor observed that it was a matter for great satisfaction that over the past years the NCC has grown very significantly in its strength, its enrollment having crossed the 13 lakh mark. He said that the youth, which constitute an overwhelming and most important component of our country’s population, have enormous potential to take India to the highest pinnacles of economic prosperity and glory, adding that NCC can play a vital role in inculcating among them discipline, camaraderie and capacity to work together. “You are fortunate to be the part of NCC, a great national organisation, and whatever vocation you choose, you will have the advantage of having been in the NCC. And in any emerging situation you would be able to mobilize others to deal with it effectively”, the Governor told the NCC Cadets. 

The Governor observed that the NCC also provides an excellent opening for the Cadets to join any of the Defence Services. In this context, he observed that the number of women officers in all the three Defence Services has also grown since their initial induction about two decades ago.

The Governor said that the quality of performance of the NCC Cadets from J&K in the various competitions in the past years has been of very high order and they won many laurels last year. He hoped that this time they would do still better and win prizes in the parade, cultural programmes and other activities, and in individual competitions. He wished them good luck.

The Governor appreciated the two cultural items, “Belley” and “Rainbow”, presented by the Cadets on the occasion on the theme of harmony depicting the glorious composite cultural heritage of the three regions of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh. 

The Governor interacted with the Cadets and enquired from them about the careers they plan to pursue. The first choice of many of them was to make careers in the Defence Services of the country.

Referring to the financial help given by him to the J&K NCC Directorate last year, to meet expenditure towards various activities during the Republic Day Camp at Delhi, the Governor said that this year the amount has been significantly raised to Rs. 75,000.

The Deputy Director General, NCC, J&K Directorate, Brigadier Thomas George, in his welcome address, thanked the Governor for blessing the Cadets before their departure for New Delhi. He dwelt on the level of preparation of the Cadets to compete in the various activities during the Camp and said that the Cadets from Jammu and Kashmir will have the opportunity of interacting with their counterparts from other parts of the country and share experiences. 

Earlier, the Officers of the Jammu and Kashmir NCC Directorate were introduced to the Governor.
