Newt Gingrich thinks America has a lot of problems. And he wants you to solve them, using a web platform called American Solutions for Winning the Future.
Citing the "enormous challenges" facing the US, Newt Gingrich has launched AmericanSolutions.com as an antidote to "the current political-governmental system…stuck in pathology of negative ads, short attention spans, gridlocked partisanship and lack of effective solutions that work."
American Solutions is described as an organization, but it appears a large component will be Web 2.0-fueled participation in a political forum. It includes a Solutions Lab that allows people to submit ‘solutions’ to topics including illegal immigration, rising oil prices (energy), health care and the military. There is an American Solutions blog that cites a recent interview with Michael Arrington’s TechCrunch and an Organize section that allows people to create and track their own events.
American Solutions looks to be something of a Republican response to the massively successful ‘Change’ campaign waged by Senator Barack Obama. On myBarackObama.com, anyone can blog, self-organize and contribute to Obama’s campaign. A close look shows that AmericanSolutions, while certainly a less elegant website, may offer even more enagagement. It’s got greater functionality and it’s much easier to navigate.
Activism on the web is often dominated by the Liberal left, but American Solutions could start to change that. Its offerings are robust, enabling a combination of social networking, Meetup.com- style organizing, multimedia content submission and real dialogue.
American Solutions for Winning the Future appears to be a lobbyist group, and has no restrictions on donations. The Invest link urges visitors to make a one-time donation of $25-$5,000– or to sign up for monthly payments. The highest monthly payment to American Solutions? $1,000.
