The 2013 NFL was a very interesting one, right from the start all the way till the Super Bowl. We experienced a bunch of surprises and we saw several players playing above expectations, while others performed way better than initially expected. In the end, the league’s best defense, the Seattle Seahawks smashed the league’s best offense, Peyton Manning’s Denver Broncos. Let’s examine some cool facts about the season passed.
Peyton Manning
Manning is one of the players who just can’t pass under the radar, almost every season in the NFL. He always draws interest from anyone around the league and he should be examined separately. The 37-year old quarterback recorded a terrific season in 2013, leading his team once again to the Super Bowl. In fact, lots of analysts believe that this was the best season in Manning’s career in the NFL. The superstar quarterback set a new record for most passing yards in a single season.
Super Bowl XLVIII
In the end, though, Manning aw not able to lift his team over the surging Seattle Seahawks in the Super Bowl. In what was the first Super Bowl to take place in an outdoors environment, the Seahawks took a 22-0 advantage by halftime and then completed their triumph with a 43-8 score. Manning threw two interceptions in the first half. Quarterback Russell Wilson was a big factor in this game, as he had been throughout the season for the Seahawks. Receiver Golden Tate, running back Marshawn Lynch and tight end Zach Miller also recorded significant performances to complete the fiesta for Seattle. Malcolm Smith was name the MVP of the Super Bowl.
Best players
There were a bunch of players who made the difference in their respective teams last season. Peyton Manning and Adrian Peterson highlight the top of the list. Calvin Johnson, Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers and Von Miller complete the short list of the best, the most impactful players, but there is a bunch of more players who made their presence felt in the NFL this past season.
Underperforming teams
The Houston Texans really disappointed with their output in the 2013 NFL season. The Texans finished with a 2-14 record, way lower than all its fans initially expected. Thankfully, the Texans hold the No.1 pick in the upcoming NFL draft.
The Atlanta Falcons also did not record a successful 2013 season. Plagued by a series of injuries the Falcons finished with just four victories and 12 losses. Atlanta was expected to be one of the title contending teams last season, but failed to even make the playoffs.
The San Francisco 49ers might have been the biggest disappointment in the NFL last season. The 49ers were considered as one of the favorites for the Super Bowl prior to the start of the season but fell victims of the surging Seahawks in the playoffs.
