Nick LaTour, 80, a TV and voice actor and the son of civil rights activist E.D. Nixon was arrested for a scuffle with police and airline personnel on a Northwest Airlines flight on Tuesday.
Witnesses say Nick LaTour accidentally bumped a flight attendant while boarding a plane in Memphis, Tennessee, causing her to fall. The flight attendant called airport police to remove LaTour from the plane. LaTour refused and was physically dragged from the plane, thrown down and handcuffed, witnesses say. During the altercation, a policeman says that LaTour elbowed him in the chest.
"It was a frightening experience," says Nick LaTour who was released on $1,000 bond. LaTour was treated at Memphis Medical center for injuries he sustained during the ordeal.
LaTour believes that police used excessive force in arresting him and didn’t take his old age into account when they aggressively handcuffed him. He plans to take legal action against airport police and Northwest Airlines.
