$5 million worth of property was destroyed by elephants following their invasion of farmland in two communities of Wonako and Begede of Anka local government area of Zamfara state, the North-western state of Nigeria.
The local farmers in the area who were affected with elephants invasion had serious injuries after attempting to escape from the invasion,while many lost their farms due to the elephants invasion,resulted in serious concern and terrible situation due to inability of them to have crops in this rainy season.
Elaphants were suspected being migrated from a forest of Dajin-Rugu at the home state of president Umaru Musa Yaradua and invaded the two communities of Zamfara state,a state being practising Islamic Law since 2000 during the time of former Governor Ahmed Sani Yariman Bakura.
Speaking to council chairman of Anka,Ahmed Sharu,he confirmed the happening of the invasion,saying already the council assisted the affected people with some amount and pledged to continue assisting them due to their lost of farm inputs.
According to him,the council also provided the injured people with drugs,while those who were seriously wounded had been taking to Gusau General Hospital for proper medication.
He appealed to Federal Government of Nigeria under the leadership of President Yaradua to assist the affected victims or even relocate them to good farming land where the elephants will not threating them again.
