A 31-year-old senior resident of the Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (Nims), Dr Jagdish Patil, committed suicide by injecting himself with a lethal chemical substance in his hostel room on the hospital premises on Monday. The label on the bottle was removed to mask the substance, police said.
He was found lying on his bed at around 3.15 pm by one of his colleagues and a cousin and was immediately taken to the hospital’s emergency wing, where he was declared brought dead.
From a suicide note found in his room, which was addressed to his father, police said marital problems could be the reason for his suicide. He was last seen by fellow doctors at around 8 am when he came down to have coffee.
According to Punjagutta sub inspector of police Mohammad Khaja, who is investigating the case, he cited in the note that his wife was not ‘compatible’ with him and due to her indifferent attitude he was committing suicide. He also mentioned in the letter not to blame her for the suicide and pleaded with his father not to take any legal action against her.
