Indian Navy divers have not succeeded till date to find the bodies of 18 sailors and officers en-trapped inside the submarine nearly 36 hours after the disaster. The submarine sank after a massive explosion and a blazing fire.
A statement from the Defense ministry stated,”Efforts continue round the clock to ascertain their status. The trapped personnel have not yet been sighted or recovered,”. The poor visibility inside the INS Sindhurakshak due to water has hampered the search operations.
They said that almost all of its devices are not in their original location and the heat had melted parts of the internal hull, the submarine hatches are destroyed thereby not allowing to enter the various compartments of the submarine.
An inquiry has been ordered to probe in to the causes of the explosions and fire which led to the destruction of submarine within six hours.
