Yes people, this is just in… Tony Rezko has been found guilty of sixteen out of twenty-four counts of fraud in a corruption case. Early on in the Democratic primary race, the issue of Rezko has been used as ammunition by Senator Hillary Clinton of New York. For anybody that has kept track of the televised debates, Clinton had openly attacked presumed Democratic nominee Senator Barack Obama of Illinois for his connection with Rezko.
For those that do not know who Rezko is, he is a known restaurateur and real estate developer. Rezko is a known fast food magnate in Chicago. He has been involved in politics in Chicago by raising funds for both Democrats and Republicans. Rezko is known to be a major fundraiser for Obama. After the corruption case came to be, Obama returned the contributions to Rezko.
The trail had begun for nine weeks. There were many talks on how the Rezko corruption case could hurt Obama’s campaign.
After nine weeks, Rezko has been charged on many counts of fraud. He has been found guilty of getting bribes for state contracts. But, Rezko was acquitted of more serious charges such as extortion.
Most of the focus was on Rezko’s connection with Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich.
Interestingly enough, Obama gets enough delegates to clinch the Democratic nomination as the Democratic primary ends. The next day, we receive breaking news that Rezko has been found guilty.
However, it has not been stated on what Rezko’s sentence would be.
But in regards to Obama, this breaking news event seems to be a bit coincidental and a bit convenient at most.
In a sense, this somewhat parallels what happened in November of 2006. The Democratic Party had won marginal control over the US Congress and most of the state governorships. Next day, Donald Rumsfeld announces his resignation as the US Secretary of State under current US President George W. Bush.
However there is one question to be asked: Coincidence anyone? That can be left to all the speculators. This breaking news comes one day after Obama has clinched the nomination of the Democratic Party.
Obama has enough delegates to become the presumptive Democratic nominee.
Rezko has been found guilty of fraud.
