According to the CNN exit polls, the biggest issue on the mind of most Democratic voters in Wisconsin was the issue of the economy. The results have indicated that Obama is either leading or even with Clinton. This has included the blue-collar workers which was an important base to Clinton. Wisconsin is Obama’s ninth straight victory and Clinton’s ninth straight loss.
Before the Super Tuesday primaries on February 5, Obama was trailing behind Clinton. After Super Tuesday, Obama was virtually tied with Clinton. After these nine contests, Obama has a marginal lead over Clinton. Since Wisconsin is very big on industry, this could foreshadow on what Ohio and Pennsylvania will be like. In Pennsylvania, there is the steel mill industry in the city of Pittsburgh.
44 percent of the Democratic voters felt that the economy was the most important issue. Half of that had voted for Obama. Almost one-hundred percent of the voters that had taken the polls said that the economy was terrible or below good. A little over 70 percent of the voters that cited the economy would site the reason it is terrible is due to the trade agreements between the United States and other countries.
It looked as if Hillary Clinton would win Wisconsin. As a result, Barack Obama had spent more time and money in the state. Recently, Clinton’s campaign had launched a pamphlet saying that Obama’s health care plan is not universal. The non-partisan group known as FactCheck.org has supported Clinton’s claim.
“Over the last few weeks, we’ve heard a lot about how our economy is sliding towards recession,” Obama addressed while he was campaigning in Texas in preparation for its primary. He added: “And as I’ve traveled across the country, I’ve seen the face of our sluggish economy.”
Texas and Ohio are considered as states that Clinton needs to win. There is a chance that Hillary could win Texas. However, the delegate rules set by the Texas Democratic Party will make it difficult for Hillary to win the state primary.
