On Saturday, January 17, it kicked off a four-day inauguration celebration. Inauguration Day on January 20 is expected to be a day full of celebrations. On that day, Barack Obama will be sworn in as the forty-fourth President of the United States. On that same day, Obama will be hosting the “Neighborhood Inaugural Ball,” in which anybody can attend.
The event will be hosted on ABC at 8 P.M. There will be other parties taking place across Washington DC on that same night.
However, there are still people not thrilled about Obama’s Presidency. They did not waste time in taking their swipes and jabs at Obama. They even took swipes at people reveling in Obama’s victory.
Days before Obama takes office, his opponents are speaking out. Michelle Malkin, a conservative blogger considered to be the “Asian Ann Counter” spoke out against Obama and those taking part in the celebration.
“Jan. 20 has turned into a schlock inauguration, (where) every last moocher has come to cash in on Obama,” Malkin said. She adds: “There are some of us who want to bang our heads against the wall.”
Conservative talk radio host Rush Limbaugh gave his two cents. He questions why people did not give George W. Bush a chance when he was inaugurated back in 2000.
Limbaugh said: “They didn’t give Bush a chance in 2000. Before he was inaugurated, the search-and-destroy mission had begun. I’m not talking about search-and-destroy, but I’ve been listening to Barack Obama for a year and a half. I know what his politics are. I know what his plans are, as he has stated them. I don’t want them to succeed.”
Former GOP House Majority Leader Tom DeLay of Texas also spoke out about Obama. His main complaint would be the four days of celebrations and parties. He plans to spend that day in California rallying the conservative base.
Opponents are speaking out against Obama. There is one question that should be asked: Will their criticisms carry any weight?
It was a little over a week after Obama won the US Presidential Election, in which there was the Republican Governors Association meeting in Miami, Florida. On Election Day, the Democratic Party scored major victories in the US House, the US Senate, and state governorships.
At the meeting, the GOP governors assessed the situation. They agreed that things do not look good for the GOP. GOP Governor Tim Pawlenty of Minnesota said that the GOP is unable to be a majority governing party if it cannot compete with Democrats in the Northeast. He explained that they are losing the ability to compete in the Great Lakes states. Pawlenty said that they cannot compete on the West Coast.
He adds that the GOP cannot compete if the ranks of the party are not diverse. Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal, the first Indian-American governor, said that the GOP was fired with due cause.
While opponents are speaking out against Obama prelude to Inauguration Day, will those words have any effect?
