Oscar de la Hoya lost to Manny Pacquiao in a bloody encounter at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas Nevada. The boxing fight billed as the “Dream Match” ended when Oscar de la Hoya quit at the end of the eighth round. His eyes were closed after absorbing a series of heavy punches from Manny Pacquaio.
At the end of the eighth round, the referee requested the ring doctor to look at the condition of Oscar de la Hoya. The doctor immediately summons the referee and his conermen and advises them to discontinue the fight. They then decided that Oscar had enough. Oscar then step into the center of the ring and offered his congratulations to Manny Pacquiao.
“You are still my idol” said Manny Pcquiao. Oscar de la Hoya shots back and said, “No you are my idol” One referee gave the first round to Oscar de la Hoya while the two others gave the rest of the rounds to Manny Pacquiao.
It was a lopsided fight from the very beginning with Pacquiao land heavy punches that find their targets while de la Hoya continued to chase him hoping to deliver a big punch. On the seventh round Pacquiao was throwing punches almost at will catching de la Hoya leaning and trying to find safety against the rope.
“He is just a great fighter, de la Hoya said. I have nothing bad to say against him. He prepared like a true champion”.
Freddie Roach, Pacquiao’s favorite trainer said that he knew that Manny had the fight from the very first round. “He had no legs, he was hesitant and he was shot”, he added
This fight could be Oscar de la Hoya’s last as he hinted at retirement early on. He took advantage of the opportunity to fight Manny Pacquiao as it offered a great opportunity to make substantial money before finally retiring.
On the other hand Manny Pacquiao is destined to become a true legend in boxing as he awaits the biggest and perhaps the richest fight in his boxing career.
