The OSCE and Joint Centre for Control & Coordination (JCCC) have confirmed that its employees came under artillery fire from large-calibre Uragan weapons of the Ukrainian army in Gorlovka on Sunday. The monitors managed to safely escape the shelling. The OSCE experts are to be evacuated to safety zones but the continuous heavy artillery fire interferes.
Earlier on Sunday, Ukraine’s presidential aide Yuri Birukov wrote on his Facebook page: “Two hours ago the entire group of our military in sector B received an order and opened saturation fire on known positions of the separatists.”
It was stressed that the shelling of residential areas in Donetsk is being performed by the Ukrainian military’s regular forces.
“Previously, all the attacks on Donetsk and its suburbs were mainly conducted by uncontrolled units of the National Guard or the so-called territorial battalions, but today it’s clear that the shelling of residential areas is performed by regular units of the Ukrainian army. Also, for the first time after a long break, the Ukrainian side is using aviation,” the JCCC representative said.
