The outgoing Chief Siddika Begum, of Murshidabad District Council in West Bengal, took away all the furniture and equipments of her official residence just before relinquishing the office and removed these to her Nashipur village home. The Murshidabad District Council went to CPI(M) this time which wrested it from the Congress in the recently held Rural Panchayat elections by a skinny margin.
The list of items taken away includes, two beds, two secretariat table, six sitter dinning table, six sitter sofa set, inverter, computer, fax machine, refrigerator, Color TV, revolving chairs and stools, steel almirah, fans, geysers etc. etc.
The new Chief Purnima Das of the CPI(M), is now finding it impossible to use the bungalow that has been stripped almost nude. The CPI(M) has lodged a complain with the District Magistrate.
Sudeb Dey, a clerk in the office of the District Chief said that on last Thursday (3rd July) when he was working in the office, he saw a truck stopped in front of the bungalow and six laborers loaded the furniture on the truck in the presence of the husband of the outgoing chief. “I am not the only witness, there were many others who saw the incident and were laughing,” said Sudeb.
A dumbfounded District Magistrate Subir Bhadra said, “ It is very unfortunate; no one can take away government property like this.”
