Mehbooba Mufti was addressing a meeting of the district committee of Anantnag district in
“Due to its oppressive policies this regime has shattered peoples’ faith in the democracy”, she regretted and pointed out during the last two years a large number of innocent people have lost their lives due to the repressive policies being adopted by this regime to oppress aspirations of the common masses.
She regretted that uninterrupted use of draconian methods used by the government to stifle genuine voice of the masses has proved counter productive as alienation among the people has been increasing with every passing day.
Taking a dig at government for not fulfilling its commitment to stop atrocities and release political prisoners, she said, “Government’s statements not match with its actions and it is every much evident from the fact that despite directions from the Court political prisoners have been rearrested on fake charges”, she said and narrated example of Main Abdul Qayoom who was released on the direction of the Court but rearrested at Jammu, “If government can treat Main Abdul Qayoom in such a way what would be its response with the commoners?’ she asked.
She said while the government itself had set an agenda of reviewing AFSPA, reduction of troops and release of prisoners only the reverse of these objectives was being followed. Many people have run away from their homes fearing arrest, torture and extortion he said and observed “it seems arrests have been turned into an industry for police and the political brokers to benefit from”, she said.

She said that inability of the NC government to learn from past has proved disastrous for the State. She said no strong arm methods have ever succeeded in defeating an idea and it is tragic that the government was refusing to learn from its blunders. She further mentioned that government has also brazenly starting auctioning of the government jobs.
Calling upon the party workers to effectively take up peoples’s issue, she said that present government appears only on papers. She further said that cruelty, tyranny, mis-goverance and bungling were the only achievement of this regime.
