A non-governmental organisation (NGO), Niger Delta Peace and Development Centre (NDPDC), has charged militants in the region to eschew violence and embrace dialogue in their struggle for the development of the area.
Speaking on Tuesday in Abuja at the inaugural dialogue organised by the Centre, a member of the Rivers State House of Assembly and Chair of the NDPDC, Linda Somiari-Stewart, stated that the centre was established to contribute to the peace initiatives that have been made over time for peace and development of the region.
According to her, "being a legislator representing the good people of Okirika Constituency in the Rivers State House of Assembly, I owe my people a duty besides my legislative duties to tap into national and international resources in promoting the peace in the Niger Delta region and the nation at large".
The NDPDC’s inaugural dialogue which opened in Abuja also coincided with the commissioning of the centre’s office in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
