Philippines: Cyber attacks blamed on Scarborough stand-off leads to alert

 Manila – The leading University, the sites of popular bloggers and writers, as well as news organizations web sites have noted a an increase in attempts to take over servers.

In one case the actions succeded – when hackers struck and defaced the website of the University of the Philippines. Mostly with chinese langugae text leading some to believe that the current tension off of the Philippine Island of Luzon has led to a wave of attacks from sources outside of the country.

"If those people doing this think we cannot fight back – they’re in for a major battle." declared a web master of a technological institute. "The Philippines is known perhaps as weak in terms of equiptment in ships and planes. But on social media and also online as well as in code writing we can teach anyone a lesson." 

Local cyber white hackers have threatened to retaliate and say they can and will make those who did the attack known.

Small Islands dispute leads to cyber scam chat waves:

349 scams linked to emails are now popping up in Philippine pages using bots ostensibly scams flling up facebook, yahoo, and others with scam messages. 

The Philippine center for cyber crime is noting also a increase in hack attampts on government run website. Much of it around the timeframe of the current stand-off with China.

"We are dealing with this – we will confront and trace it and they will lose." declared a cyber crime excutive noted for his work in prosecuting virus writers and scammers. "We have been able to arrest those responsible for cyber crime acts – we continue to get cooperation from those groups affected and victims." 

Davao based China (ROC) cyber fraud group exposed/arrested

Meanwhile in the Philippine largest city on Mindanao Island several raid led to the arrest of scores of Taiwanese ‘tourists’ employed to work in boiler – room type scams and allegedly for fraud syndicates victimizing the elderly in Taiwan.

A joint police opperation between Taiwanese and Philippine police units led to the arrest of a group renting homes in Davao City. The gorup allegedly engaged in extortion, false kid-napping claims and other crimes.

 The joint opperation between Police agencies in Taiwan and the Philippines dhows cooperation between Manila and Taipei is working well. Manila is currently in row with the PRC over small reefs and islands in the South China Sea.
