Phillies Take Game One In 2009 World Series

Phillies beat the New York Yankees 6-1 in game one.

The Philadelphia Phillies won game one tonight in the 2009 World Series.

Winning pitcher Cliff Lee was at his best and the New York Yankee line up was only able to score in the bottom of the ninth on an error by Jimmy Rollins. The final score 6-1.

Chase Utley had two solo home runs to lead the Philly attack as he tied a record set in 1928 by Babe Ruth, two home runs in a World Series game against a left handed pitcher. It would be all the Phillies needed to defeat the Yankees.

Cliff Lee pitched lights out, a complete game and also had a great ‘behind the back’ defensive play.

Game two of the best of seven is Thursday night in New York with the action going to ‘The Bank’ in Philly on Saturday. It is also good to note for Philly fans that the winner of game one in the World Series won the Series in eleven of the last twelve World Series events.
