ISLAMABAD: President, Pervez Musharraf, Thursday reiterated the importance of building Kala Bagh Dam, saying “it will be constructed when the right time comes.”
Speaking in a state run TV Programme, he said the job of media is to identify the shortcomings of the government and bring it to light. The media should function but it must criticize the government with due responsibility, he added.
Talking about curbs on media, the President blamed media for spreading a sense of frustration in the country.
“It is the responsibility of the government to ensure stability of the country, its progress and prosperity of the people,” he said.
President Musharraf said the development of the country depends on its economy. Pakistan was declared defaulter state in 1999, it was broke and possessed foreign exchange which could last for only two weeks.
The GDP stood at 63 billion dollars in 1999 but now it has increased manifold to 162 million dollars.
He said construction of Kala Bagh Dam is essential for the prosperity of the country. “Its construction has been delayed due to some reasons, however, the project will be taken up when the right time comes.
