Prophet Mohammad, born in the holy city of Mecca is the propounded of Islam. The parts of the Bible called the Old Testament are considered as the teachings and the earlier tradition Islam. The Muslims believe Mohammad as their last Prophet. Ibrahim (Abrahan) mentioned in the Old Testament is believed to be progenitor of the Arabs, being the children of his second wife Hagar’s son Ismael. The Jews are said to be the children of Ibrahim’s first wife Sasrah’s son Isaac. Prophet Ibrahim and his son Ismael built holy Kaba, at Mecca.
Arabia is a vast desert land, unfit for agriculture due to lack of rain. Most of the Arabs took to trade and where also engaged in overseas commerce. They had tribes and they lacked unity. They engaged themselves in tribal fights, but the Arabic language and the pilgrimage center Mecca were factors that unified them. But Mecca, which was both a center of pilgrimage and trade, and was also a center of immoral activities. The teachings of the Old Testament that there is only one God and that he has no form (image) had been forgotten. Kaba had many images installed on it. These had led to the concept of polytheism. This was against the Jewish concept of monotheism and Jewish opposition to idolatry.
Prophet Mohammad `(`the praised one’) waged a war against disunity and false religious superstitions.
