On Saturday, June 29, Provost Academy Colorado celebrated the accomplishments of its 2013 graduates at the Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities in Arvada, Colo. This year’s graduating class included 41 students living in areas around the state.
Provost, an online school designed for the realities of today’s high school students, provides all students the opportunity to graduate by meeting them where they are academically, within the context of their lives.
Denver resident Taylor Willingham, named Student of the Year, was one of the 15 graduates who walked in the ceremony. Willingham began attending Provost three years ago, when it first opened. At her previous schools, she experienced bullying from 5th to 9th grade then looked for an alternative education option.
Willingham thrived academically thanks to the flexibility and individual attention that comes with online schooling; Provost provides 24/7 learning and support and evaluates students on 7-day progress rather than seat time, allowing students to choose their schedule. Post graduation, she is interested in learning about graphic and videogame design.
