Vladimir Putin had said during the United Moscow party conference that he would become the prime minister of Russia if Dmitry Medvedev becomes president of Russia in March. Currently, Dmitry Medvedev has been confirmed as the candidate to represent United Russia.
It looks that Mr. Medvedev could possibly win due to the popularity of Mr. Putin. By law, Mr. Putin cannot run for president for a third consecutive term. However, he could run again when the year 2012 comes.
“If the citizens of Russia trust Dmitry Medvedev and elect him the country’s president I will be ready to chair the government,” Mr. Putin said to the conference.
“I don’t have the slightest doubt that [Mr] Putin… will keep using his enormous political and professional resources, his influence both in our society and in the world, for the benefit of Russia and its citizens,” said Dmitry Medvedev.
At the conference, Mr. Putin said he was not afraid to give Russia’s destiny to the hands of Mr. Medvedev.
