On Wednesday Ravi Shankaran, key accused in Naval War Room leak case lost his appeal against being extradited to India. The ruling came from a District Judge Nicholad Evans at Westminster Magistrates Court in London who said that he had been presented with no evidence to prove that there wasn’t a "case to answer".The Home Secretary of Britian, Theresa May, will decide on ordering extradition of Shankaran to India.
In 2007,an extradition request was sent to the UK following information of his being in the country.In April 2010,he was arrested by British authorities on the basis of the non-bailable arrest warrants issued by the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, New Delhi.
A retired naval commander and relative of former Navy Chief Admiral Arun Prakash,46 year old Shankaran, has been absconding since 2006 when the CBI registered a case against him.In May 2006.After filing a charge-sheet in July 2006 the CBI revoked his passport and issued a Red Corner Notice against him.
He is the main suspect in the serious 2006 Navy War Room leak case of leaking over 7,000 pages of defence information of sensitive nature from the naval war room and air defence headquarters to arms dealers.
The other culprits in the sensitive case of national interest are sacked naval commander V K Jha, former Indian Air Force wing commander S L Surve and businessmen Abhishek Verma.
