Jammu, March 05, (Scoop News)- Nawang rigzin jora, congress mla from Leh,was elected as leader of the congress legislature party in the state assembly on Thuresday .
In a meeting of congress legislators presided over by B.K Hari Prasad MP Rajya Sabha incharge AICC Genrel sectary,JKPCC Presidnt G.A Mir and Mouinul Haq secretary AICC incharge JK also participated in the meeting.
A historic event for Ladakh as it is for the first time a local legislator was elected to the post.
It may be mentioned that Nawang Rigzin Jora(MLA) has won the 48-Leh constituency seat by 7676 votes against his rival BJP candidate Chering Dorje Lakrook. In his 12 years tenure as MLA, Nawang Rigzin Jora has contributed immensely not only for Ladakh region but for the entire state.
Nawang Rigzin Jora born in Leh on 2 February 1958.He is an alumnus of St. Stephen’s college Delhi.
.Before joining politics he was a member of the Ladakh Buddhist Association, Leh, a strong organisation and a member of World Buddhist Fellowship, and actively participated in an agitation for grant of Union Territory Status for Ladakh region. Later when in a compromise between the government of India and the Ladakh Buddhist Association a separate administrative unit ” The Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, Leh” was created in 1995, he became one of the four Executive Councillors of the newly constituted “Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council” under the leadership of the former president of Ladakh Buddhist Association Thupstan Chhewang.
