Humans need water for a lot of work that they do personally and also on the commercial basis. This water is obviously obtained from the natural sources like rivers or the underground water. The river water can just be directed towards the place of interest but the underground water needs special treatment. The underground water is trapped between the rocks as a layer that is formed after water seeps through various layers of rocks gravel and soil. This underground water can only be retrieved by drilling a bore well and then pumping the water out. This pumped water can then be supplied for various jobs through the rising main. The rising main is the main pipe that is used to take water from the lower levels to the higher levels because of the action of pump. Since a pump pushes water in bursts and with pressure the pipe that is known as rising main should be able to withstand high pressure.
The other word that can be used for rising main is pressure main and the most common materials that are used for the manufacturing of such pipes are:
- Ductile iron cement lined (DICL)
- GRP or glass reinforced plastic
The pressure that the rising main experiences is not a constant pressure but it is in pulses and since the motor throws the water up with a lot of pressure it is of great importance that the pipes of the rising mains are strong enough to withstand that kind of pressure without developing cracks and breaking away.
The dimension of the rising main should also be considered before you get the hose installed. The amount of pressure that is being put on the hose and the amount of pressure that is expected to be had in the other pipes that are connected to the main hose determine the gauge of the main pipe of your water supply. If the pipe is too large in diameter it is a possibility that the pump will not able to push the water up the rising main. If the pipe is too thin the volume that is being pumped will be very less and you will not get enough pressure in the pipe. The diameter of the pipe therefore is very essential for the rising main to work properly and efficiently without causing many problems.
The rising main is mainly used for the extraction of the underground water and sending to the main tank where it can be stored. The water thus stored gets supplied to the various houses and commercial units as per the requirement. When the pump starts working the water is forced through the pipe in bursts and this exerts a great amount of pressure along the walls of the rising main. This implies that the walls of the pipe should be strong enough to withstand the force of water being pumped and so much so that it does not break or start leaking due to cracks formed as a result of force of water. Many at times if the breakage is in the portion of the pipe which is underground then there is a possibility that you get dirty water or water mixed with sand and debris. This must be avoided as it may lead to clogging of other pipes and appliances through which this water flows. The only way to avoid this kind of situation is by using high quality and high strength rising main pipes. You must always evaluate the quality against the cost of the pipes and use the one that is going to pose no problem for a very long time.
