Russia’s military aggression of August 2008 will go down in history.
Russia’s regular army simultaneously with its air and land forces were dislocated across the whole sovereign territory of Georgia. The Georgian city of Gori (the city where Stalin was born) was totally destroyed. Several districts of Georgia’s capital were bombed and all strategic military facilities were bombed intensively.
The most dangerous element is that this is not only a Russia-Georgia crisis; it goes beyond. With this military aggression towards Georgia, Russia shows the rest of the world that today Russia dictates the rules in the international relations; that today Russia acts as it wishes and doesn’t respect Europe, NATO, the US or the views of other respective organizations or states. It is a fact that Russia is an aggressive and uncivilized player of the 21st Century. It strives to become a superpower at any cost and for the realization of its aim doing everything using the military forces and all aggressive capabilities.
In the press-conference held on August 13, Secretary Rice clearly demonstrated its concerns that “Russia is not behaving like the kind of international partner that it has said that it wants to be …. People are questioning the nature of the ongoing relationship with Russia.
”It is not accidental that at the beginning of the military operation General Shamanov, the main executioner of the Chechen people who, according to some sources, directly led the Russian paratroop brigade in Ochamchire, entered Abkhazia.
This is the military tactic of Putin-Shamanov, which was used during the second war in Chechnya. A Russian armada would come to a city and at any trifle of resistance would start killing the civilian population through merciless missile-artillery and air attacks.
