When we are in distress or in imminent danger, the word salvation always comes to mind. Our conscience is bothered whenever we commit mistakes or transgressions to our fellow men. Fear and anxiety gripped our soul if someone threatened us with harm or death. In all of these things that we encounter in our lifetime, we usually asked for help and salvation.
In most cases, we offer prayers to our God asking Him for divine intervention to ease our predicament and receive salvation in His merciful name. Parts of those who always pray to God are the people who live in sin or the immorally corrupt and the boastful ones who tell the people that God is on their side. And it seemed to me that these people are getting of what they ask from God.
To a non-sectarian and non-religious person like me but who believes in God and the salvation he promised to mankind, doubts still bothers me whenever I see bad guys accumulate their blessings for being prayerful to God.
Take for example Philippine president Gloria Arroyo; she was accused of cheating her election victory in 2004 by talking to an election officer while voting is still going on. Later in that year, she was seen in Time Magazine as cover girl with a bold caption which says “God put me here” (the presidency). Isn’t that ironic? Or is it God’s will to protect bad guys and give them salvation?
And now that the president is being accused of being evil, luckiest bitch and ingrates because of her administration’s failure to fight massive corruption, anomalies and killings, again she is asking God’s help and salvation. The president attended a mass organized by her loyal friends yesterday. She was seen on TV praying meekly as she holds her rosary and probably talking to God for the salvation of her lost soul?
I don’t really know why I have to question God’s fairness. There are people who are poor, hungry, indigent but good, do no not steal or kill but bereft of God’s blessings. For God’s sake when will we be delivered from total neglect?
