At a time when the French President Nicholos Sarkozy’s
approval ratings have plummeted to the lowest because of his reform minded approach especially relating to economic issues, he may have a rescuer in his son ‘Jean’ whose eye-catching initiatives have brought him under limelight.
He is putting his charming personality and skills of acting to peruse the political ambitions, besides helping his father to shore up the derailed popularity of his father. He is playing a pivotal role in a drama titled when translated in English roughly means ‘the rise of the daupin’. The theme of the drama centres at driving a point that after all not all young people are against his father’s economic reforms. He conducted the first in a series of meetings designated to mean in English ‘Young Thursdays’ in a café where young conservatives were invited to question prominent Government Members and selected celebrities. The efforts are directed at attracting young people to get involved in Politics.
It is significant that he has chosen Neuilly an affluent suburb in Paris which was the political platform of his father and wherein he is a councilor. He is expected to gradually extend his influence to larger areas over a period of time.
These measures acquire further significance in the context of the ongoing agitations wherein both the students and teachers have been taking to the streets to protest against the President’s plans to cut teaching jobs and streamline the civil services.
If Sarkozy the Junior succeeds in his mission, soon a situation may arise when his father might have to turn to him for advice, for he can easily be touted as the one waiting in the wings to assume top-ranking post which however may not mean occupying the highest position; of course, he has the age, resources and wherewithal to become one.
