In a suburban community just outside of St. Louis, students volunteer to get an HIV test after health officials released an announcement that as many as 50 students may be infected with the virus. The district originally found out about the potential exposure on October 9th, prompting officials to release information to the press, a story which has since grown.
Consequences arising, some students have shared their stories of what is happening in their lives since the scare. One student, Jasmine Lane, told reporters her boyfriend from a neighboring high school ended the relationship when he found out.
As of now, according to interviews, there is no panic and no hysteria. Students are volunteering to get tested for the virus anonymously. Nobody knows who did or did not get tested.
For now, school officials and the Health Department have chosen to remain silent about who or what exposed the students to HIV, with little to no detail shared with those presently out of the know.
The school will remain open with classes continuing on their normal schedules. More information is expected at a later time.
