Science Has The Potential To Solve Many Issues Relating To The Common Man: Dr. Harsh Vardhan

Need To Play Greater Role For The Flagship Programmes

Hyderabad (PIB-GR-TYP-BIN): Union Minister of Science & Technology and Earth Sciences, Vice President, CSIR Dr. Harsh Vardhan said that the science has the potential to solve many issues relating to the common man. Addressing a the function organized to mark the dedication of Medical Biotechnology Complex of CSIR-CCMB to the Nation in Hyderabad on October 10, he said that research institutes in the country should work for the benefit of people.

The Minister appreciated the research work being done at the CCMB. The CSIR research institutes have to play greater role for the flagship programmes being implemented by the central government, he said. The Minister said that the NDA government has been trying to develop passion for the research career among the youth by implementing various schemes. Later in the day, the Union Minister visited the labs of CSIR- Indian Institute of Technology and interacted with the staff.

Union Minister of State with Independent Charge for Labour & Employment Mr. Bandaru Dattatreya expressed happiness over the dedication of Medical Biotechnology Complex at CCMB today and said that Hyderabad has become a place for many important research institutes of the country. He assured all possible help from his side for the research activities in the city.

Union Minister of State for Science & Technology and Earth Sciences Mr. YS Chowdary said that the research institutes should organize an ‘Open Day’ regularly to instill scientific temper among the students and general public. He also asked the institutes to work on the revenue models to be self-sufficient.

Dr. Ch. Mohan Rao Director-CCMB said that the CCMB ‘Medical Biotechnology Complex’ has three components: Clinical Research Facility, Nano biology laboratory for Biomedical Applications and Common Research and Technology Hub (CRTDH). He added that the facility has an area of about 10,000 sft with several equipment such as soft-wall clean room for photolithography and soft lithography for microfabrication, micro fluidics and molecular biological equipment such as PCR, HPLC, etc.
